The makeover projects launched in 2018

Currently, we are working on the realization of a new mold for the deck part.

AS-Ponant International actively participates and finances this new mold.

After much discussion, a new design has brought together a consensus around the following concept:
   - self-draining cockpit
   - opening of the transom
   - boxes with reduced volume compensated by the additional volume below the raised floor
   - boxes extended to the front of the boat and freeing the bow for the spinnaker

The purpose of these changes is twofold:
   - give the Ponant a facelift by bringing its design closer to modern dinghies but retaining all its original character.
   - reduce the number of parts to be manufactured to simplify construction… and guarantee a perfect one-design.

You can also find there various advantages:
   - more longitudinal rigidity
   - getting back on board (after swimming) will be much easier from the rear
   - the change in volumes should allow less… physical recovery

The new design in detail

The hull is not modified. Only the transom is cut leaving a central volume to fix the rudder.

   - The bottom of the cockpit is raised to the level of the waterline.
   - The centerboard is fully integrated into the floor, the legs are eliminated as well as the lateral stabilization tube.
   - The floor extends to the bow, the whole creating a large volume of buoyancy.
   - The drift well consists of two shells assembled by gluing and laminated on the bottom of the hull. The front of the well is extended by the mast base reinforcement (vertical partition).
   - The boxes are integrated into the floor, they are less bulky than before and are made up of developable surfaces so that they can be sandwiched with PVC foam. The rear of the boxes is refined to free up space for boarding.

Evolutions in 2016

After a thorough renovation of the manufacturing molds and an improvement in a few critical points, we are proud to be able to announce the launch of production for the new Ponant dinghy.

What's up ?

- manufacture of the hull in vacuum infusion, which provides regular and careful manufacturing,
- now we use epoxy resin, which is much stronger than polyester and does not absorb water,
- carbon fiber is used to stiffen the sensitive points even more,
- use of an Airex and cork core to obtain an optimal thickness,
- design of a new rudder blade adapted to the boat,
- as well as revised drift profile
- lateral displacement of the spinnaker tube,
- direct connection of the mast base to the bottom of the hull,
- removal of wooden parts,
-…

A lot of technical developments, which allow us to offer you a more rigid and solid boat.
A regularity of production makes it possible to leave the hulls while respecting the gauge to the letter.

This guarantees you the respect of the one-design and to have a powerful boat in regatta and pleasant to sail on outings.

We are at your disposal for any useful information as well as the development of an à la carte quote.

Rest assured that we make sure to provide you with quality quality boats.

The first improvements in 2013

For the first time, sophisticated techniques are used:

- manufacture of the hull in vacuum infusion, which provides regular and careful manufacturing,
- now we use epoxy resin, which is much stronger than polyester and does not absorb water,
- carbon fiber is used to stiffen the sensitive points even more.

It is the hulls 5302 and 5303 which benefit from increased rigidity and other improvements.
